WPOS-3 Puts an End to Cash Payment in Hong Kong Taxis2017-11-13 关键词：
On a trip to Hong Kong for sightseeing or visiting relatives, people may be faced with the embarrassment of not bringing sufficient money to pay taxi fare. At an era when a mobile can fix the payment on the Mainland of China, 18,000 taxis in Hong Kong accept cash payment only.
Recently, however, such a single and traditional way of making payment is about to come to an end with the implementation of “Co-created intelligent travel plan for taxi.” A few days ago, the first batch of Hong Kong taxis began to accept the taxi fare paid by using UnionPay card or Quick Pass, providing more convenient payment service for tourists visiting Hong Kong as well as local passengers. All the mobile intelligent POS terminals inside taxis are provided by Beijing Wiseasy Technology Co., Ltd (“Wiseasy”).
The “Co-created intelligent travel plan for taxi” is jointly promoted by CamClaim Limited, UnionPay International, China Mobile, K & R International Ltd. and Jieda Express. It is intended to promote the use of mobile payment in Hong Kong taxis, and to help the development of finance, science and technology and intelligent city in Hong Kong.
According to Joey Lam, founder and CEO of CamClaim Limited, 15 taxis in the city proper of Hong Kong Island and New Territories will get involved in the first stage of implementing the plan. It is expected the driving data will be collected within three months. By the end of 2018, this service plan will have been implemented in 500 Hong Kong taxis. Till then, the Hong Kong taxis will also support the scanning of UnionPay QR code and other forms of payment in receiving the taxi fare.
WPOS-3 secures the safe payment for Hong Kong taxis
The mobile intelligent POS selected for the implementation of this plan –WPOS-3 is a flagship product developed by Wiseasy. A fashionable and refined-looking terminal, WPOS-3 has been granted with two international industrial design awards –“Red Point” and “IF”. It is China’s first Internet-based intelligent terminal having been fully granted with UnionPay security certificate as well as the international security certificates in the bank card industry such as PCI PTS and EMVCo. It can ensure the safe payment between taxi drivers and passengers.
At any taxi installed with WPOS-3, a passenger can pay taxi fare by using global UnionPay credit card or stored value card, mobile bound with Apple Pay or Android Pay. Passengers can swipe cards through reader, “tap”cards, or use Quick Pass installed on mobiles to pay taxi fare. Meanwhile, the taxi drivers participating in this plan can use UnionPay pre-paid cards to settle the accounts of the payment received within one day. In this way the taxi drivers can receive the money within the shortest time and without paying handling charge.
In 2016, Leung Chun-ying, Chief Executive of HKSAR proposed the concept of building Hong Kong as an“intelligent city” in his Policy Address. As an important link in building theintelligent city, mobile payment, as part of mobile services, has been put on the agenda. The “Co-created intelligent travel plan for taxi” is a primary attempt to boost the use of mobile payment in the urban construction of Hong Kong.
It is learned that the future “intelligent travel plan” will also be extended into restaurants and supermarkets for creating the system of “intelligent catering and retailing business”. According to Lin Ziyan, “In 2016, the retail sales realized by using UnionPay services reached as high as 240 billion HK dollars. The UnionPay services are highly popular in Hong Kong, while the mobile payment equipment supporting UnionPay services is not sufficient. ‘WPOS-3 enjoys a large space of development as it supports the mobile network services such as Wi-Fi and 3G/4G.”In addition to integrating different forms of making payment and cashier services, WPOS-3 will bring still more convenient experiences to Hong Kong consumers by “accepting the orders for takeaways”and providing many other services.
Explosive growth of intelligent POS
Today, mobile payment has become the mainstream way of payment in the Mainland of China. It drives the gradual integration of the online and the offline business, and conversely forces shops to upgrade their management. As the intelligent business terminal connecting finance, membership, marketing, warehousing, logistics and other management systems, mobile intelligent POS provides not only the critical entry of upgrading the shop management, but also more multi-dimensional solutions through its integration with the backstage management system.
(Annual increase of intelligent POS terminals nationwide)
(Forecast for the market size of business intelligent terminals within the next five years)
It is due to this reason that the market growth rate of intelligent POS has always been on the rise. According to the data of Analysis International, the growth rate of intelligent POS nationwide increased to nearly 250 percent from 2016 to 2017. It is expected that the market size of the intelligent business terminals will reach 37.1 billion RMB Yuan in 2018, and maintain the compound growth rate of nearly 60 percent. This means that the next three to five years will witness the explosive growth of intelligent POS.
Mr. Guowei Ma, co-founder of Wiseasy and its vice-president and chief engineer said: “It is obvious to all that intelligent terminals have enhanced business efficiency. The development of intelligent POS in the Mainland will inevitably provide new opportunities of developing mobile payment in Hong Kong. It is our delight to be able to get involved into the ‘Intelligent travel plan in Hong Kong’, and bring to Hong Kong the latest technologies, equipment and payment concept of the payment industry. It is our hope that WPOS-3 can be applied in more industries in addition to bringing conveniences to Hong Kong citizens, and can make its share of contribution to constructing Hong Kong as anintelligent city.”
